Strengthening Multisectoral Engagement for Health Security
The Evidence and Analytics for Health Security (EHS) unit, under the department of Health Security Preparedness (HSP), is responsible for evidence generation and application to best strengthen health security preparedness and support decision making. The HSP strategy guides the EHS unit: "Providing evidence for action and investment in IHR and Health Security." The EHS unit generates evidence from IHR, non-IHR health data and other relevant sources to inform strategic decisions and advocate for optimal policy in countries that ensure effective health security preparedness.
Current areas of work of EHS include
- Analytics
- Outcome and impact analysis,
- A dynamic preparedness metric (DPM),
- The Universal Health and Preparedness Review (UHPR) metric, and
- WHO Benchmarks for IHR capacities
- Health Systems for Health Security (#HSforHS).
- Preparedness economics
- Preparedness research and development, and
- Support and capacity building to the Member States and WHO staff in the above areas.
These activities all contribute toward meeting the GPW-13 target of keeping "One billion more people better protected". In addition, the EHS unit is a service provider for countries, partners and other WHO offices."
The EHS unit disseminates the evidence generated through case studies, publications, scientific articles, bulletins and presentations. The unit also conducts webinars on analytics, various training activities and scientific writing to regions, member states and relevant stakeholders.
