Trauma and Emergency Surgery Kit (TESK) 2025

For 25 hospitalized trauma patients with dedicated sets for Operating Theatre (OT) and for Emergency Unit (EU)

WHO trauma and emergency surgery kit (TESK) aims to provide materials and drugs for trauma patients in emergency situations. This kit is intended for use by health care providers who are trained in appropriate management of emergent surgical issues and are acting within their scope of practise. It is designed for use in areas where basic levels of infrastructure exist.

In this 2025 revision, the kit has undergone significant structural changes. Sets are now categorized specifically for either the Emergency Unit (EU) or the Operating Theatre (OT). While some sets contain similar items, others have been tailored to meet the specific level of care required in each setting.

• BASIC sets are focused on the EU
• ADVANCED sets are specifically dedicated to the OT

Key points about the changes made in the TESK 2025

Target population is now 25 trauma patients (previously it was for 50); therefore, quantities have been reduced. Make sure to align your request accordingly.

The TESK 2025 now serves two purposes: supplying the OT, as the previous (2019) kit did, and supplying the EU, which is new, with some modules dedicated to one or the other and others designed for use in both units.

The sets listed “BASIC” are only for EU and the sets listed as “ADVANCED” are only for OT, set with no specifics are for both OT and EU.

The drug set previously known as Set Drug 1A1 has been divided into smaller sets in the TESK 2025, as it had become too large. The new structure now includes separate sets for injectable drugs, oral medicines, cold chain items, and dangerous goods, following the same principle applied in the PED-SAM 2020 and the IEHK 2024.

The gloves set and suture set have been divided into OT and EU categories based on the relevance of the items to each clinical setting.

New sets have been developed:

• haemorrhage control set: which could be used for both the EU and OT;
• ocular set: containing only medicines and supply for the eye care (eye drops, cotton pad, eye shield and speculum); and
• suture tool basic: containing a few instruments for suturing in the EU.

Composition of the TESK 2025

The MODULE 1 composed of 3 modules 1A, 1B and 1C

• Module 1A comprises 10 sets consisting of different type of medicines arranged according to their relevance and intended use within each level of care;
• Module 1B consists of 16 sets, with renewable and consumables; and
• Module 1C consists of 2 sets, all of which equipment medical devices intended to be reused.

The MODULE 2 composed of 3 modules 2A, 2B and 2C

These modules exclusively consist of surgical instruments categorized by procedures.

• Module 2A includes 9 sets of surgical instruments for general surgery, Module 2B contains 6 sets for orthopaedic surgery; and
• Module 2C comprises 7 sets for specialized surgery.

Note that Module 2 was revised in February 2024, with updates to set compositions, the introduction of new sets, and the discontinuation of some existing ones. No further revisions were made in 2025.
