Flaviviridae research and development roadmap
Overview
This roadmap outlines global research and development priorities to accelerate the preparedness and response to diseases caused by flaviviruses, including dengue, Zika, yellow fever and West Nile virus. Developed under the WHO R&D Blueprint framework, it provides a structured overview of key knowledge gaps and priority actions across the full R&D continuum, from basic research and epidemiology to the development of diagnostics, therapeutics and vaccines, as well as enabling functions such as surveillance, clinical trials and regulatory pathways.
The roadmap is intended to support coordinated international action by researchers, funders, public health agencies and product developers. By promoting a family‑based approach to pathogen preparedness, it aims to strengthen collaboration, optimize investment, and guide strategic decision‑making to ensure more timely and equitable availability of medical countermeasures for flavivirus threats with epidemic potential.
